My Personal Brand

The most truly rewarding part of this semester was creating a personal website. Creating a website is a great way to stand out from other individuals who are competing for the same job. A personal website displays ones work as a portfolio, a contact page for employers, and a bio page. With a personal website one can link their other accounts though it such as a blog, a twitter account or LinkedIn. A personal website allows recruiters to find candidates more easily and is more dynamic than a resume. The process of creating a website is super tedious. First, since this website is going to reflect work that has been done throughout the college process it is important that one picks 10 pieces they would like to share on their website. These pieces can range from research papers, artwork, videos to blog posts. After picking these ten pieces, it is important that one writes a clear bio about themselves with a professional picture so that employers get a nice background of what you do. After saving all files correctly it is time to begin coding. Adobe Dreamweaver is the tool that was used to code our personal websites since we were blessed with the coding. Coding a website is extremely fun, most wouldn’t agree. While looking at Adobe Dreamweaver one could be confused on all the coding. As soon as we got a background on how to work Dreamweaver the tool slowly became very easy to navigate through. We were able to switch out the coding with our proper coding to make our website. Our website was divided into three parts. The bio which is a short message about oneself. The contact page which listed our email, phone number and other accounts that we could be reached at. The third page was the portfolio, the portfolio displayed our best work. You must be very patient when coding, one wrong number or extra space can throw a lot off. While coding one can go to file and scroll to “real life preview” and see how  their website is going along. During the coding process you start seeing what works well and what doesn’t. Since we were on top of our due date it was upsetting that we did not have enough time to customize and polish up our website. However, one starts to learn how to put out content that enhances their personal brand. Coding is definitely an important skill to pick up. Creating a website can help one engage with employers more easily and is an awesome way to market ones personal brand.
